I bought this 1" threaded headset for a 47 year old frame that no longer has any of its original componets. The original headset was missing a couple of its bearings and the races were pitted. This headset was offered as a package deal with a new fork which the bike also needed. That is how I aquired it. The fact of the matter is though, that because it is steel it is faily smooth and was really easy to install compared to other high-end ones I've done. It isn't top of the line at all. But, for my 47 year old commuter, it'll do.  Ok cheap headset, but has non-standard, obsolete locknut, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Sunlite Chrome Steel Threaded Headset - ATB/RD Chrome Polish (Misc.) This headset works fine, and is a good fit for an older road bike. The problem with it is that it uses very non-standard lock nut, so it's very hard to install properly unless you have the elusive tool for that obsolete lock nut. This lock nut is not the kind you can tighten with a regular headset wrench. I ended up using a bottom bracket tool on this which did not fit right, so I could never tighten the locknut properly. Thus the headset could never be adjusted properly. I suggest that you buy the Ritchey 1 inch headset instead - that's what I'll have to do unfortunately... |
