if you're at all inclined to drop the dosh necessary to go home with this box set, you were inclined to purchase it before you read any review about its contents. in fact, i will suggest that there are any number of things that one could conclude about you and your life long quest for aesthetically pleasing, attention to detail, buff polished pop music and all that that implies.

you no doubt already own most of the contents of this set both cd and dvd. you are interested in the book. which is exactly what you've longed for, an insider peek into the early workings of a fledgling label that always did their own thing, regardless of cost or penalty. which is why we give a damn at all about ZTT to this day.

the dvd is of excellent quality, however, do not purchase it looking for interviews with key players or shots of the old ZTT offices. there are no trevor horn interviews or Frankie behind the scenes. do not come here looking for a retrospective visual document of... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars A mixed bag, with some essential reading, August 25, 2011
This review is from: Zang Tumb Tuum: The ZTT Box Set (Audio CD)
Chances are that most folks purchasing the ZTT box set will have been familiar with the label in its earliest incarnation, when it was home to the likes of The Art of Noise, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, and Propaganda. During the first few years of its existence, ZTT followed a path that, in some ways, was the logical progression from what Stiff Records began in the late 1970s, but with updated production techniques and a more sophisticated philosophical underpinning. In later years, particularly after the departure of Paul Morley, the label branched out in more (more-or-less) conventional ways, culminating with the worldwide success of Seal, while at the same time regularly mining the early catalogue (especially Frankie Goes To Hollywood) for a number of reissues and compilations.

The last five years, in the wake of ZTT's departure... Read more
